Pack is a sofa designed by Francesco Binfaré for the Italian company Edra. The design depicting a polar bear on an ice floe breaking apart recalls innocence, happiness, and fairy tales. Pack is as much a sculpture as a piece of furniture, evoking childhood memories and the security of one's favorite pet while serving as a reminder of climate change.
Pack consists of an asymmetrical two-piece base stuffed with Gellyfoam® and feathers for optimal comfort and is upholstered in a fabric specially designed to resemble the texture of Arctic sea ice. The backrest is a full-size polar bear lying on its side in soft plush ready to be embraced or leaned back against. The mobile back allows for several compositions of the sofa, which is equivalent to a 2-seater and 3-seater depending on placement. Placing the backrest in the middle provides access from all sides and a more formal seating position, pushing the back towards one edge and a large seating depth gives a more relaxed feel.
